Immunotherapy Treatments on the Market Today

With cancer affecting millions of people across the world today, the hunt for a cure is now stronger than ever. While that sought-after cure still eludes us,some valuable treatments have been introduced to the market that have been shown to have many beneficial effects.

Here are some of the most ground-breaking techniques that exist today. Read their uses and processes to get a good idea of which might be the best fit for you whether you are currently suffering from cancer or feel that you may be at risk for an immune system problem that could develop in the future.

  1. 1. CAR T-Cell Therapy

Chimeric antigen receptor T-cell therapy also known as adoptive cell transfer (ACT) therapy, works only to treat two specific types of blood cancer: acute lymphoblastic leukemia in young adults and large B-cell lymphoma in adults.

While developments are still being made, these are the only currently known and approved uses for this method that involves removing blood, enhancing T-cells,and reinserting the blood to help them fight off cancer on their own.

GcMAF,which stands for Gc protein-derived Macrophage Activating Factor, works to activate microphages to combat foreign entities in the body. However, all but one of the studies conducted and published by the technique’s creator,Dr. Yamamoto,on the subject of GcMAF immunotherapy have been retracted from the journals in which they were published.

Public warnings have been released regarding misleading claims about GcMAF immunotherapy’s effectiveness. This does not mean that it is entirely ineffectual. However, one must proceed with caution when electing to utilize this treatment.

  1. 3. TCR Therapy

T-cell receptor therapy is another type of ACT like CAR T-cell therapy discussed above. This technique is currently being used on patients suffering from synovial sarcoma and metastatic melanoma.

Like CAR,TCR involves removing T-cells,reworking them, and reintroducing them into the body. However,TCR tells the T-cells what to do more specifically. Thus far this technique has shown mixed results and requires more testing before it will become widely adopted.
